Indore Gets Madhya Pradesh’s Second Food and Drug Testing Lab

Key Update

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated the newly built Food and Drug Testing Laboratory (FDTL) at Talawali Chanda in Indore on Monday. The government spent ₹8.30 crore on the project to create a modern, transparent facility for faster testing. The new lab, the state’s second after Bhopal, will serve as a model for other districts.

First Divisional-Level Facility Since 1956

Yadav noted that Madhya Pradesh has established a divisional-level food and drug testing lab in Indore for the first time since its formation in 1956. The government will set up additional labs in Jabalpur, Gwalior, and other divisions to expand testing capacity statewide. The Chief Minister announced plans to open FDTLs in every district, aiming to make testing systems more accessible, transparent, and efficient. The expansion will help detect adulteration quickly and improve the quality of food and medicines available to the public.

Zero Tolerance for Adulteration

Yadav reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating adulteration in the production and sale of food and drugs. He directed authorities to take strict action against violators and promised to support and reward industries that maintain high quality and ethical standards. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the Indore FDTL will set a benchmark for other districts and strengthen the public health system, particularly in the Malwa region.

Rapid Expansion of the FDTL Network

Public Health and Medical Education Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel said the government will open the third lab in Jabalpur within three months, followed by Gwalior four months later, and Ujjain soon after. He confirmed that Madhya Pradesh is moving towards a comprehensive FDTL network to enhance testing efficiency.

Focus on Healthcare Development

Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat highlighted the government’s investment of ₹787 crore to upgrade Indore’s MY Hospital into a model healthcare facility. Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening food safety and healthcare infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh.
