Hygiene Shock: Indore Momos Unit Sealed

Hygiene Shock: Indore Momos Unit Sealed

Key Update

The Madhya Pradesh Food Safety Department launched a major hygiene enforcement drive in Indore and took strict action against a momos factory and a restaurant operating in unhygienic conditions. Officials found that the factory had been running without a valid FSSAI licence, directly violating food safety regulations. During the surprise inspection, the team discovered filthy surroundings, open garbage, swarming flies, and severely neglected storage conditions for both raw and cooked food.

Samples Seized; Legal Action Underway

Authorities seized several food items on the spot and collected samples for laboratory testing. Inspectors noted unsafe food handling practices and contamination risks that posed a serious threat to public health. The department has initiated legal proceedings under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and warned that strict penalties will follow once test results are confirmed.

FSSAI on High Alert

FSSAI officials reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on such violations and urged food businesses to comply with hygiene and safety norms. The crackdown forms part of a wider statewide campaign to eliminate unlicensed and unhygienic food operations in Madhya Pradesh, especially in rapidly expanding food hubs like Indore. Officials also encouraged citizens to check FSSAI licence numbers before consuming food from any outlet and to report poor hygiene through the “Food Safety Connect” app.
