Key Development
Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) will conduct surprise inspections at eateries, bars, and restaurants until December 31, ahead of Christmas and New Year, said Minister Narhari Zirwal. FDA teams will collect food samples to detect adulteration and ensure compliance with food safety norms. The inspections will focus on the repurposing of food items, quality of food packaging, lighting in low-lit bars, and hygiene practices of food delivery services.
Minister Stresses Hygiene and Quality
Minister Zirwal emphasised that alcohol-serving establishments must maintain food quality at night as routine checks intensify during the Christmas and New Year season. He warned that bars and kitchens must remain hygienic, and any food samples failing to meet safety standards will trigger strict action.
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Small vendors holding registration certificates may face compounding penalties, while restaurants could have their licenses suspended for mismanagement. The Maharashtra minister also urged customers to report lapses in food service. He added that inspections would expand if new government guidelines are issued.
