Key Development
Three employees of a Khajuraho resort in Madhya Pradesh died, and two remain on ventilator support, after suspected food poisoning during a staff lunch. A total of 11 workers were hospitalised, according to health department officials. Several are still undergoing treatment at Jayarogya Hospital attached to Gwalior Medical College.
Administration Confirms Deaths, Announces Relief
The Chhatarpur district administration confirmed the deaths and announced an immediate financial assistance of ₹20,000 for each family of the deceased. The incident took place on Monday afternoon when the staff of Gautam Resort sat down for lunch. Shortly after eating, they developed dizziness, nausea, stomach pain, and anxiety. All of them were first taken to the district hospital and then shifted to Gwalior due to their critical condition. Three employees, including a woman, died during treatment.
Victims Identified
Those who fell ill include Hardik Soni (20), Pragilal Kushwaha (54), Golu Agnihotri (25), Bihari Lal Patel (60), Ramswaroop Kushwaha (47), Ravi Kauder (19), Dayaram Kushwaha (65), Roshni Rajak (30), and Girja Rajak (35). The deceased were identified as Pragilal Kushwaha, Girija Rajak, and Ramswaroop Kushwaha.
Police and Health Department Launch Probe
The health department and police launched a swift investigation after the incident. Police collected food samples from the resort, and health officials sent samples of food, water, and kitchen hygiene materials for laboratory testing. Authorities also issued strict instructions to the resort management to maintain proper kitchen cleanliness and ensure food quality.
Officials Monitoring the Situation
Civil Surgeon Dr Sharad Chaurasia said all 11 employees suffered suspected food poisoning. Three died, two remain on ventilators, and the rest are under treatment at Jayarogya Hospital. Chhatarpur District Collector Parth Jaiswal confirmed the deaths and said a dedicated team of doctors is monitoring and treating the remaining patients.
