As many as 74 students of the Devarapalli Government Tribal Welfare School in Maredumilli, Polavaram district in Andhra Pradesh, fell ill on Sunday after consuming idlis and chutney served for school breakfast, police said. According to Rampachodavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police Sai Prashant, a total of 255 students ate breakfast at the school. Soon after the meal, several children complained of vomiting and stomach discomfort.
Students Shifted to PHC and Area Hospital
Officials shifted 18 students to the Maredumilli Primary Health Centre, while the remaining affected students were admitted to the Rampachodavaram Area Hospital for treatment. Doctors diagnosed all the affected students with mild food poisoning and confirmed that none are in serious condition. The students are currently stable and responding to treatment.
Chief Minister Orders Probe and Monitoring
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the incident with senior officials and directed them to monitor the health of the students closely. He asked the district collector to submit a detailed report and ordered strict action against those responsible for any negligence. Food Safety and district officials collected samples of the food served at the school and sent them for laboratory analysis to determine the cause of the illness. Police have registered a case, and officials stated that the exact cause will be determined after the lab reports are received.
