Pune FDA Busts Adulterated Mango Pulp Racket, 3.8 Tonnes Seized

Key Update

The Pune Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pune, seized over 3,800 kg of adulterated mango pulp during raids in Maval and Khed talukas. Acting on specific inputs, FDA officials inspected a manufacturing unit in Maval and found it producing mango pulp using unauthorised food colours and adulterants. The team collected six samples—including mango pulp, raw mangoes, and additives such as sugar, cow’s milk, and liquid saffron colour—for laboratory analysis. Authorities seized and destroyed 3,282.9 kg of perishable stock, valued at approximately ₹1.61 lakh, on-site.

Probe Leads to Second Unit

Investigators traced the supply chain to another unit in Khed that sourced pulp from the Maval facility. Officials conducted an inspection and seized an additional 558 kg of mango pulp worth ₹61,380. The FDA urged citizens to remain alert and report suspected food adulteration through its toll-free helpline (1800222365).

Strict Enforcement Under Food Safety Law

DV Bhogawade, Joint Commissioner (Food), Pune division, stated that the department is maintaining strict surveillance to safeguard public health. He emphasised that fruit vendors and juice manufacturers must operate with a valid licence, warning that violations can attract penalties of up to ₹10 lakh under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
