Key Update
Food safety authorities have issued a nationwide recall in the United States for at least eight products sold at Walmart and ALDI after identifying a potential Salmonella risk. The affected items include select frozen pizzas and pork rind snacks made using dry milk powder flagged as a possible source of contamination.
Regulators Trace the Source
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the alert on April 30 and continues to expand its investigation. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first detected the issue and informed FSIS that multiple regulated facilities had received ingredients containing recalled dry milk powder. This finding prompted officials to trace the distribution and identify affected products.
Consumers Urged to Act Immediately
Authorities have warned that some of these products may remain in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. They have clearly instructed consumers not to consume the affected items and to dispose of them safely. In response, Walmart has removed the impacted products from its stores, enforced a sales restriction, and started working closely with the supplier to investigate the issue and prevent further risk.
Understanding the Health Risk
Salmonella spreads through contaminated food such as meat, poultry, dairy, and produce. It typically causes diarrhoea, fever, and stomach cramps within six hours to six days of consumption. In severe cases, the infection can lead to serious complications and may become life-threatening, making timely recalls and consumer awareness critical.
