CMC Cracks Down on Hyderabad Restaurants Over Food Safety Issues

Key Update

Food safety officials of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) conducted inspections at two food establishments in Hyderabad’s Madeenaguda and Moosapet areas on Tuesday. They detected several hygiene and food safety violations.

Officials Detect Improper Storage at Gismat Jail Mandi

During an inspection at Gismat Jail Mandi restaurant in Madeenaguda, the food safety team found raw and semi-prepared non-vegetarian food items stored without labels. Officials also noticed improper storage of chicken, mutton, and fish. The team immediately discarded the improperly stored food items during the inspection.

Officials found that the restaurant was operating without a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence. The dishwashing area was unhygienic, with stagnant water and accumulated food waste, while raw material storage containers appeared untidy. The inspection team also observed food handlers working without aprons and hand gloves. Officials further found iron knives and damaged chopping boards being used inside the kitchen. Following the inspection, the CMC food safety team served a show-cause notice to the establishment and directed the management to rectify the violations immediately.

CMC Closes Udupi Upahar Over Expired Licence

In another inspection at Udupi Upahar restaurant in Moosapet, officials found slippery kitchen floors and clogged drains filled with food waste. The team also detected improper storage of cooked veg biryani, cooked rice, batter, paneer, manchurian, and dough inside freezers. Officials observed untidy storage containers, unhygienic wash areas, and improper thawing practices for frozen food. The kitchen area also showed signs of cockroach infestation and flies. Food handlers were working without hairnets and masks, officials said.

The restaurant was operating with an expired food licence. Authorities closed the premises for functioning without a valid licence and immediately discarded stale veg biryani and manchurian found during the inspection.
