Municipal authorities in Tirurangadi in Malapuram have uncovered multiple food safety violations during an enforcement drive, including the alleged use of animal fat in mandi, unhygienic food preparation, and the sale of stale food. Officials issued notices to several establishments and ordered the closure of one canteen until further notice.

Inspection Finds Animal Fat Used in Mandi

The Tirurangadi Municipality Enforcement Squad found that some food outlets were allegedly preparing mandi using animal fat while selling it as chicken mandi, misleading consumers. According to Municipal Secretary M.V. Ramsi Ismail, the practice could pose serious health risks.

During the inspection, officials also found unhygienic food preparation practices at the Taluk Office canteen, including the improper handling of chicken and unsanitary cooking conditions. The canteen was ordered to remain closed until further notice.

Stale Food Seized, Notices Issued

The enforcement team inspected hotels, bakeries, cool bars, and the fish market, seizing stale and previous day’s cooked food from several establishments. Officials also confiscated banned plastic products from a local trader.

The municipality issued notices to all establishments found violating food safety and hygiene regulations, reaffirming its commitment to protecting public health through regular inspections.
