Significant Update
In an effort to control rising waterborne diseases, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) intensified enforcement drives in the Behrampura and Lambha wards this week. The action focused on unhygienic food outlets and littering hotspots across the South Zone.
Joint Inspection Targets Street Food Violations
A joint team from the health, estate, and solid waste management departments inspected 64 food units during the drive. Officials identified multiple hygiene violations, particularly among street food vendors. Authorities seized six panipuri carts for operating under unsafe conditions. They also destroyed around 10 kg of inedible food and 17 litres of unsafe liquid found during inspections.
The estate department collected ₹37,000 in penalties from violators, including six panipuri carts. At the same time, the South Zone solid waste management team imposed ₹21 lakh in fines on units across markets and commercial areas for poor waste management.
Focus on Public Health and Cleanliness
AMC’s intensified action highlights the importance of maintaining hygiene in street food operations and proper waste management to prevent disease outbreaks. Authorities are expected to continue strict monitoring to ensure safer food handling and cleaner public spaces.
