Kozhikode residents were shocked after a family discovered worms in chicken biryani purchased from Sreenidhi Hotel near the Kozhikode hospital in Balussery. Shailaja, a resident, along with her family, bought the biryani from the hotel and found numerous small worms inside the chicken pieces while eating at home. The family’s young son fell ill after consuming the meal.

The family raised their concerns at the hotel, but the management refused to acknowledge the complaint. Accompanied by locals, they inspected the hotel’s freezer and found additional expired food items, further fueling public anger.

Health Authorities Seal Hotel After Discovery of Expired Food

Following complaints filed with the Balussery Panchayat and health authorities, officials took swift action to address the food safety violation. Under the leadership of Panchayat President Rupalekha Kompilad, Health Inspector Prabhish, and Food Safety Officer Unmesh, the authorities sealed and shut down Sreenidhi Hotel as per directives from the health department.

The affected child received medical attention from Panchayat officials, and residents continue to demand stricter enforcement to prevent such unsafe food practices. Meanwhile, the hotel remains closed pending further investigation.
