Dibrugarh Dishes Out Hygiene Training for Street Vendors

Report

The Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) in Assam conducted a food safety training programme for 60 street vendors at its conference hall. Organisers split the participants into two batches of 30 each. The sessions focused on safe food handling, personal hygiene, and basic sanitation to raise food safety standards in the informal food sector.

FSSAI Leads FoSTaC Programme with Industry Partners

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) led the training under its FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification) initiative. Nestlé India Limited and the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) partnered in organising the event, ensuring hands-on training for vendors operating across the city.

Programme Aims to Improve Street Food Quality and Consumer Trust

Officials said the initiative aims to enhance the quality of street food in Dibrugarh and build consumer confidence in local vendors. “We want to create a sustainable ecosystem where street food vendors not only follow food safety norms but also grow as entrepreneurs,” said a food safety department official. The training covered real-world safety challenges and also offered guidance on business development skills for vendors looking to scale up their operations.
