FDA Cracks Down on Unsanitary Biryani Vendors in Goa

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in Goa, announced on Tuesday its commitment to targeting unhygienic dining establishments, with a particular focus on biryani vendors operating along coastal routes during the tourism season. A team led by FDA officer Richard Noronha shut down five facilities in Calangute on Tuesday due to unsanitary conditions and improper kitchen practices. With support from the local panchayat, the team seized approximately 850kg of cooked food and raw meat.

FDA’s Ongoing Efforts to Enforce Food Safety

FDA director Shweta Dessai informed reporters that food safety officials will keep penalizing vendors who violate the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. She also reported that officials conducted multiple raids on Monday in Baga, seizing and disposing of about 80kg of biryani and associated utensils. On Friday, FDA officials raided several locations in Calangute, confiscating over 100kg of biryani and cooking utensils. They immediately ordered vendors to halt operations due to unsanitary conditions.
