FDA Elevates Blueberries Recall to Highest Risk Level

Report

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has upgraded the recent recall of organic blueberries to its most severe category — Class I.  Alma Pak International LLC, based in Georgia, voluntarily initiated the recall on June 9 after routine testing detected Listeria monocytogenes in its products. The affected shipment included 400 boxes, each weighing 30 pounds, distributed to a single customer in North Carolina.

Recall Details

  • Company: Alma Pak International LLC, Georgia

  • Recall Date: June 9, 2025

  • Quantity Recalled: 400 boxes

  • Box Weight: 30 lbs each

  • Lot Numbers: 13325 G1060, 13325 G1096

  • Distribution: One North Carolina customer

The FDA’s Class I designation, announced on July 1, 2025, signals that these contaminated blueberries could cause serious illness or even death. Consumers and vendors are urged to inspect their inventories and immediately discard any blueberries matching these lot numbers.

What is Listeria

Listeria, a bacterium that can survive in cold storage, may cause mild symptoms in healthy people but lead to severe illness like meningitis in vulnerable groups, making proper food safety and avoiding high-risk foods essential to prevent serious infections and deaths.
