FDCA Seizes 4.4 Tons of Suspected Adulterated Ghee and Butter in Gujarat

Overview

In a decisive move against food safety violations, the Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) of Aravalli, Gujarat, along with the Police Department and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), raided M/s Bapashri Dairy Products in Bhiloda, Aravalli. The joint team seized over 4.4 tons of ghee and butter, suspected to be substandard or adulterated, with an estimated market value of Rs. 23.74 lakhs.

During the operation, FSL officials collected seven samples for testing and analysis to verify the quality and safety of the products. Officials also discovered that the dairy unit was operating without a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license, a serious violation of regulatory norms. As a result, the FDCA has initiated legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

FDCA’s Statewide Food Safety Drive

The FDCA confirmed that this raid forms part of a broader statewide campaign to eliminate adulterated food products, particularly in the dairy sector, which sees high consumption across Gujarat. Reaffirming its commitment to public health, the FDCA warned all food businesses that it will not tolerate violations of food safety norms. Authorities have also urged consumers to stay alert and report any suspicious products or vendors to their local FDCA offices.
