Key Update
In Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, five people, including a two-month-old infant, died, and several others fell ill after allegedly consuming contaminated food at a post-funeral feast in Dunga village. The victims have been identified as the infant, Budhari (25), Budharam (24), Lakkhe (45), and Urmila (25). Officials confirmed the infant’s death was linked to food contamination.
Health Authorities Respond Immediately
Narayanpur Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) T R Kunwar stated that authorities received reports of deaths from contaminated food on October 21. Following instructions from collector Pratishtha Mamgai, a team comprising CMHOs from Narayanpur and Bijapur, along with the Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Orchha, visited the village to treat affected residents.
Timeline and Symptoms
Investigations revealed that the victims died between October 14 and October 20, after attending the post-funeral feast on October 14. Villagers suffered severe vomiting and diarrhoea, which contributed to the fatalities.
Health Camp and Treatment Efforts
On October 21, authorities conducted a health camp in Dunga village, examining and testing 25 villagers. Of these:
- 20 were diagnosed with vomiting and diarrhoea
- 2 were diagnosed with malaria
- 3 suffered from other illnesses
All patients received immediate treatment, and a 60-year-old woman was admitted to the Bhairamgarh Community Health Centre.
Ongoing Measures and Precautions
The health team remains in the village, continuing treatment and advising villagers to consume fresh food and drink boiled water to prevent further cases.
