Food Safety Raids in Karimnagar Reveal Alarming Violations at Sweet Shops

Food safety officials launched surprise raids across several popular sweet shops in Karimnagar town, Telangana, on Wednesday, uncovering serious violations in hygiene, storage, and food preparation practices just ahead of the festive season. Led by Assistant Food Controller Khaleef, Gazetted Food Inspector Rohit Reddy, and Food Safety Officer Ankith Reddy, the inspection team targeted Anil Sweets and Bakery, Anand Sweets, and Maharaja Sweets. The team found disturbing lapses in basic hygiene, including kitchens infested with flies and mosquitoes, some even found in the milk used for making sweets.

Contaminated Milk and Sweets Destroyed

At Anand Sweets, officials destroyed 20 litres of contaminated milk. In a similar action at Maharaja Sweets, they seized and discarded 10 kilograms of badusha and 3 kilograms of mixture deemed unsafe for consumption. The raids also revealed improper storage conditions and the rampant use of artificial food colouring, raising concerns about consumer safety during a time when demand for sweets surges.

Festive Season Prompts Tighter Vigilance

With the festive season approaching, food safety officials have intensified inspections to ensure public health is not compromised. Authorities have urged sweet shop owners to maintain high standards of cleanliness and warned of strict action against violators. The raids have sparked concern among consumers and highlighted the need for more rigorous compliance with food safety regulations across the region.
