Food Safety Inspections at CCMB Canteen
Food safety inspectors recently examined the CCMB (Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology) canteen in Hyderabad. On November 8, 2024, the task force arrived at the site and immediately identified multiple violations. Inspectors found that the canteen operates without an FSSAI license and lacked medical fitness certificates, FoSTaC training certificates, and temperature logs. They also observed several safety and hygiene issues, including a live cockroach infestation in the kitchen, signs of a rodent problem in the storage room, and rodent droppings on the shelves. they =The garbage cans in the kitchen were left open and some food items in the cold room and fridge were without labels.
Multiple Violations Detected
The authorities identified and discarded several expired food items, including 1 unit of Kasuri methi, 3 packs of white corn flour, 10 kilograms of white sabudana, and 4.5 kilograms of Kolhapur jaggery. Inspectors also found an uneven kitchen floor, cracked tiles in the food prep area, and doors and windows lacking insect-proof screens. They noted that atta bags were placed directly on the floor with no space between the bags and the walls.
Inspections at Hyderabad’s Eateries
On the same day, the task force examined several locations in the Nacharam area of Secunderabad. At Manu’s Kitchen, inspectors discovered a live cockroach infestation in the store and kitchen, webs on the walls and ceiling, a refrigerator in a filthy state, unmarked refrigerated food items, and expired canned mushrooms. They also found 3 kilograms of paneer labelled with the date “08.11.2024,” but the officials were unsure whether this referred to the packing or expiration date. The food workers were not wearing hair nets or gloves, and the windows and doors lacked insect-proof screens and did not fit snugly. The restaurant had not displayed its FSSAI license, and the inspectors found missing pest control documentation and health fitness certificates during the examination.
Expired Food, Hygiene Violations Found Across various Establishments
The task force also examined Siri Suprabhath Hotel in Nacharam that day. Inspectors found that the Food Business Operator (FBO) had an FSSAI Registration Certificate, even though the business was categorized under a State License. They did not find any documents related to pest management, health assessments, or water quality analysis reports. Additionally, the FBO failed to maintain temperature logs for the refrigerators. The inspection revealed that some food handlers were not wearing hair coverings. Inspectors also discovered uneven floors, standing water, unlabelled food, spoiled tomatoes and potatoes, and 30 expired packets of Dalda.
