Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) food safety officials conducted surprise inspections at retail outlets, distribution centres, and delivery hubs of major e-commerce platforms, including Zepto, Amazon Fresh, Instamart, BlinkIt, Big Basket, Swiggy, and Zomato, within their jurisdiction.
GHMC Checks Cover Food, Storage, and Documentation
The teams inspected food products, examined storage facilities, and verified documentation at e-commerce outlets, dark stores, and distribution hubs. They took action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Rules and Regulations of 2011. Food Safety Officers (FSOs) inspected 35 establishments linked to platforms like Zepto, BlinkIt, and Swiggy, collected 65 samples, issued notices for defect rectification, and prepared to file cases for major violations before Adjudication Officers.
Common Violations Uncovered
Inspections revealed several lapses, including housefly infestations, absence of medical fitness certificates for food handlers, poor pest control, improper storage of food with non-food items, and food handlers working without hair caps or gloves.
