Authorities have suspended the food safety licence of a highway motel in Thulukkapatti, along the Madurai–Tirunelveli national highway in Tamil Nadu, due to poor hygiene in kitchens.
Inspection Reveals Poor Hygiene
Following a tip-off, S. Mariappan, Virudhunagar district Food Safety Designated Officer, inspected the motel on Thursday. He found that the motel lacked a proper wastewater management system, resulting in stagnant water near the building. The kitchen ceiling was covered with cobwebs, highlighting poor cleanliness.
Mislabelled Food Seized
Officials seized 5 kg of mislabelled chips, 4 kg of cashew nuts, and 1.5 kg of fennel seeds. The District Designated Officer has instructed all transport corporations not to stop their buses at the motel.
