Key Development
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s Education Department has issued a show-cause notice to Rao Raghubur Singh Sewa Samiti, the NGO responsible for supplying mid-day meals to MCD primary schools in Kalkaji’s B-Block, after inspectors found major food safety violations and lapses in operational norms.
Surprise Inspection Reveals Major Lapses
Amit Kharkhari, Chairman of the MCD Education Committee, conducted a surprise inspection on November 21. During the visit, he flagged several issues: the kitchen lacked an oil catcher, the fly catcher was not functioning, expired sooji was stored on-site, and wheat and rice stocks supplied by the Food Corporation of India were missing.
Action Expected Within 7–10 Days
Kharkhari stated that the department anticipates resolving the matter within the next 7 to 10 days. “The NGO must file its reply. If the explanation is not satisfactory, we will take strict action, including cancelling their tender,” he said. Rao Raghubur Singh Sewa Samiti currently provides mid-day meals to nearly 60,000 children across MCD schools.
