Midday Meal Triggers Illness Among 50 Schoolchildren in Bidar

Around 50 students of a government primary school in Jamlapur village of Aurad taluk, Bidar district of Karnataka, were rushed to a government hospital on Tuesday after they complained of uneasiness following the consumption of the midday meal. Of the 50 students taken to the Aurad Taluk Hospital for observation, 20 developed severe stomach pain and vomiting and were admitted for treatment. Doctors discharged the remaining students after a preliminary medical examination.

Health Officials Say Students Stable

Taluk Health Officer Gayatri said the condition of the admitted students is stable. “There could have been an issue with the midday meal. An inquiry is underway to ascertain the exact cause,” she said. Aurad Tahsildar Mahesh Patil, along with officials from the midday meal programme, visited the hospital and reviewed the situation. Authorities confirmed that all students are out of danger and are being closely monitored.
