Key Development
With Raksha Bandhan approaching, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (FSDA) in Gautam Budh Nagar, NCR, has stepped up inspections across the district to ensure consumers receive safe and hygienic festival foods. Following directives from District Magistrate Medha Roopam, the FSDA launched a district-wide crackdown targeting adulterated and unhygienic food items.
Intensified Inspections Across Gautam Budh Nagar
Food safety teams conducted surprise checks in sweet shops and food manufacturing units, focusing on key locations including Sector 63 and Chhajarsi in Noida. Assistant Commissioner (Food-II) Sarvesh Mishra affirmed the department’s commitment to ensuring the public receives only safe food during the festive season. During the operation, officials collected 13 food samples for laboratory analysis to verify safety and compliance. They took samples of sweets such as barfi, laddoo, and rasgulla from various shops and units suspected of violating hygiene standards.
Immediate Action Against Unsafe Food Products
Wherever teams found gross violations like fungal contamination or unsanitary manufacturing conditions, they took swift action by destroying unsafe products on the spot. In one major operation, approximately 365 kilograms of sweets were destroyed at a facility in Chhajarsi due to filthy conditions. The crackdown saw extensive raids on sweet shops throughout the district, leading to the disposal of over 450 kilograms of contaminated sweets overall. Officials emphasised that the surprise checks will continue to maintain strict food safety standards during the festival season.
