The Haridwar district administration drew criticism after expired chip packets were allegedly distributed to school students attending the fifth-anniversary event of the Drug-Free Bharat campaign. Students from several private schools had gathered to take a pledge against drug use when the refreshments were handed out.
Many students ate the chips before noticing that the packets had expired. Others immediately informed their teachers and the officials present. CDO Haridwar LN Mishra, Mayor Kiran Jaisal, and other authorities stepped in to pacify the situation. District social welfare officer Avinash Bhadoria confirmed that a few packets had expired on October 30 and “should not have been distributed.” He added that an inquiry has been ordered.
Food Safety Team Launches Action
The food safety department quickly raided the shop that supplied the stock, seized all expired packets, and filed a complaint with the court of the additional district magistrate. The investigation is now underway to determine how expired snacks reached the event and who is responsible.
