Public Meet on Food Safety & Adulteration in Mysuru, Aug 30

Key Updates

The Mysuru Grahakara Parishat (MGP) will hold a public meeting on August 30 to address growing concerns about food adulteration and safety in the city. The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at 6/1 Vivekananda Road, Yadavagiri, Mysuru. Since its formation, MGP has actively worked to educate the public about how commonly consumed food items are often adulterated and the health risks associated with excessive pesticide use. MGP activists have conducted hundreds of demonstrations on food adulteration in schools and public places across Mysuru.

FSSAI Officer to Explain Government Action Against Adulteration

S.L. Ravindra, Designated Officer from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), will speak at the event. He will explain how the department detects adulteration through inspections of hotels and shops, as well as how it analyses food samples to ensure compliance. He will also encourage the public to assist in identifying violators and reporting suspicious practices.

Experts to Highlight Health Risks and Industry Responsibilities

Dr. K.G. Srinivas, Senior Consultant and Head of Medical Oncology at Bharath Hospital, will talk about the long-term health hazards caused by the widespread use of pesticides in food production. Ravichandra Bekal, a management consultant with experience in the FMCG sector, will offer insights into industry practices and the importance of food safety compliance from a corporate standpoint.

Public Invited to Engage and Ask Questions

MGP has invited residents of Mysuru to actively participate in the session, especially in light of the Dasara festival, which attracts thousands of tourists to the city. The organisation encouraged attendees to send their queries in advance to mygrapa@gmail.com. For more information, residents can contact MGP at 0821-2515150.
