She noted that lifestyle diseases, including diabetes, are increasing across the state and affecting more school students. Sakshi Mohan urged teachers to train students to read and understand the information printed on food packets, helping them make informed food choices from an early age.
Schools Launch “Sugar Board” Campaign
Assistant Education Officer Jacob Satyen announced that schools have launched an awareness campaign called “Sugar Board” to discourage excessive sugar consumption. Food Safety Officer Julie Joseph reported that the campaign has already covered two schools. The meeting instructed officials to maintain transparency in supplying food materials to anganwadis and to strictly uphold quality standards.
Officials Act on Food Safety Violations
Officials directed the Food Safety Officer to take action after receiving a complaint that a shop owner assaulted an officer who questioned the sale of mineral water kept carelessly in plastic bottles under the sun. They also instructed the Legal Metrology and Food Safety Departments to verify the weight of Christmas cakes and other packaged foods and to prevent the sale of adulterated coconut oil.
Stricter Checks on Welfare Schemes
Tiruvalli Panchayat President K. Ramankutty called for tighter inspections to prevent ineligible people from claiming BPL benefits. Parunthan Noushad demanded that ration cards be issued even to families without residential certificates.
