Swiggy Launches High-Protein Menu Across 30 Cities

Overview

Swiggy has launched a High-Protein category in 30 cities, tapping into India’s rising demand for healthier meal options. The platform now offers over 500,000 curated dishes from 35,000 restaurant partners across major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. This initiative helps users easily discover meals that fit their health goals without scrolling through lengthy menus or decoding labels.

Strict Nutritional Standards for Every Dish

Every dish in this category follows well-defined nutrition benchmarks:

  • Minimum 15 grams of protein per serving

  • Calories limited to 700 kcal or less

  • Protein contributing at least 10% of total calories

These guidelines ensure that the meals are not only high in protein but also balanced for everyday consumption. “As food preferences evolve, Swiggy aims not just to follow trends but to shape them by helping people discover food that’s good for them—and still delicious,” said Deepak Maloo, VP of Food Strategy at Swiggy.

Personalised Search and Filters

Finding high-protein meals on Swiggy is simple. Users can search for keywords like “protein” or “diet” to access the dedicated section. Dishes are sorted by protein content, and users can filter by protein source, such as paneer or soya. Restaurants also display protein-rich dishes at the top of their menus for easy access.

Protein Deficiency: A Widespread Concern in India

Protein deficiency is a significant nutritional gap in India. A report by ICRISAT (International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics), IFPRI (International Food Policy Research Institute) and CESS (Centre for Economic and Social Studies) shows that more than two-thirds of households in semi-arid regions consume less protein than recommended, relying heavily on grains like rice and wheat. Similarly, an IMRB survey found that 73% of Indians are protein-deficient, and only 10% meet daily protein requirements. During the pilot phase, over 1.8 million customers explored the High-Protein category. Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi led in orders, while cities like Chandigarh also stood out for their preference for protein-rich meals.
