Overview
As part of an inspection, Thrikkakara municipality health officials seized expired food items from restaurants along Collectorate Link Road in Kakkanad. The inspection was part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to enforce food safety regulations. Health department officials transported the confiscated items to the municipality office, where they displayed them along with the names of the offending establishments.
Municipality’s Commitment to Food Safety
Unni Kakkanad, chairperson of the municipality’s health standing committee, emphasized that these routine confiscations reflect the municipality’s commitment to ensuring food safety. He added that violators would receive a notice and face a fine of Rs 25,000. Meanwhile, the municipality plans to promote a food safety app launched by the local authority. “We will run campaigns to raise awareness of the app, empowering customers to report violations directly,” Unni stated. Opposition council members, however, called for stricter action against these establishments, including revoking the licenses of repeat offenders.
