UPFDA Seizes 800 Kg of Unlicensed, Unsafe Paneer in Agra Crackdown

Key Development

The Uttar Pradesh Food and Drug Administration (UPFDA) has seized nearly 800 kilograms of unsafe paneer from unauthorised manufacturing units in Agra. This decisive action comes under the state’s ongoing campaign to curb food adulteration and uphold public health standards. Acting on a tip-off, UPFDA officials raided local paneer production units and found unlicensed operations running in filthy, unhygienic conditions. These units failed to meet basic cleanliness norms and violated the guidelines set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

UPFDA Sends Samples for Lab Testing

Officials collected paneer samples and sent them to the state food testing laboratory for a detailed analysis. The lab will check for signs of adulteration, including the use of harmful chemicals or non-food-grade substances that mimic the texture and look of real paneer. These results will determine the legal action taken against the offenders. UPFDA has confirmed that it will pursue strong legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Penalties may include hefty fines, license cancellations, and even imprisonment, depending on the seriousness of the violations uncovered.

Officials Urge Public to Stay Vigilant

Authorities have urged consumers to report suspicious or unhygienic food products and to purchase only from licensed vendors. Officials emphasised the importance of checking for proper labelling, packaging, and FSSAI certification marks to ensure food safety. This raid in Agra is part of a broader food safety initiative led by FSSAI and the state FDA. Officials plan to intensify inspections across the state in the coming weeks to eliminate food adulteration and ensure safe, hygienic food for all.

UPFDA Sends Strong Message to Food Adulterators

By acting quickly and firmly, UPFDA has delivered a clear warning: violating food safety laws and endangering public health will not go unpunished. The crackdown highlights the government’s commitment to making safe food a right, not a privilege.
