A passenger on the Vande Bharat Express from Allahabad to Delhi flagged a food safety concern after staff served hot rotis and kachoris heated inside sealed plastic packets. She shared a video on X, questioning why officials reheated food in packaging that did not mention it was microwave-safe.

In the clip, a staff member of Vande Bharat confirms that they warmed the meals without removing the plastic wrap. The packet reportedly carried storage instructions but no guidance for heating, raising questions about safety standards.

IRCTC Responds

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) apologised publicly and asked the passenger to share her PNR and contact details to investigate the matter.

Experts Warn on Heating Plastic

Nutrition experts caution that heating food in plastic not designed for high temperatures can trigger chemical leaching. Compounds such as phthalates and bisphenols may migrate into food when exposed to heat. Experts advise transferring food to glass or ceramic containers before reheating. The incident has reignited debate over food packaging practices and passenger safety on premium train services.
