Wedding Sweet Turns Sour: Over 100 Fall Ill After Feast in Rajasthan

Key Update

More than 100 people, including several children, fell ill after consuming sweets served at a wedding function in Kotputli-Behror district in Rajasthan on Friday. The incident took place in Dhani Gaskan village in the Viratnagar area, where villagers started experiencing vomiting, stomach pain, and discomfort shortly after eating the sweets, rasmalai, distributed during the ceremony.

Officials said organisers prepared the sweets, including rasmalai, on Thursday night and served them to guests and residents on Friday. As the number of affected people increased, authorities shifted around 105 villagers to the Community Health Centre in Atela for treatment. Doctors later referred 16 children and 14 adults to the Shahpura Community Health Centre for advanced treatment. Sub-Divisional Officer Kapil Kumar Upadhyay said medical teams provided timely treatment to all patients, and most recovered and returned home after their condition improved.

Food Safety Teams Begin Investigation

After receiving information about the incident, officials from the administration and health department rushed to the village to assess the situation. Food safety officials collected samples of the sweets served at the wedding and sent them to a laboratory for testing to identify the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning incident.
