On Thursday, February 6, 2025, someone found a deceased lizard in the lunch served to sixteen students at a girls’ hostel at Bharathiar University in Coimbatore, leading to their treatment for suspected food poisoning. The incident started when one student experienced nausea and went to Kalveeranpalayam Primary Health Centre for help. After receiving first aid, the medical team transferred her to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for further treatment. The hospital discharged her later that same day.

After the discovery of the lizard, 15 more students developed nausea and received outpatient care at Kalveeranpalayam PHC. The medical team released them shortly after treatment. Bharathiar University hostel officials remained unreachable for comment, and authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the food poisoning.
