Food Safety Violations in Telangana: 960 kg of Ginger-Garlic Paste Seized

Report

Telangana State Food Safety Task Force officials conducted unannounced inspections at the area’s food processing, ginger-garlic sales, and sweet manufacturing facilities. During the operation, they confiscated 960 kilograms of ginger and garlic paste. Following the instructions of Telangana State Food Safety Commissioner RV Karnan, the Task Force team, led by Zonal Assistant Food Controller V Jyotirmayi, carried out the inspections. Food inspectors P Rohit Reddy, P Swathi, P Manoj Kumar, and B Ratan Rao assisted in the operation.

Food Safety Violations Uncovered in Khammam

The team discovered multiple violations at the Magic Ginger and Garlic Paste Factory in Rikka Bazaar, Khammam. The facility lacked an FSSAI license, had labelling errors, missing batch numbers, and an absent FSSAI logo. Additionally, the unit repacked products, displayed incorrect addresses, and provided misleading information. The inspection also revealed that the facility stored ginger-garlic paste next to detergents, which could cause cross-contamination and foul odours due to chemicals like phenol. Authorities seized the tampered paste and 960 kilograms of product valued at Rs 1.32 lakh.

Irregularities Detected at Vijaya Lakshmi Pastries and Hari Sweet Home

At Vijaya Lakshmi Pastries in Church Compound, inspectors found food being prepared in an unsanitary kitchen and excessive amounts of cancer-causing chemical dyes in the sweets. They collected samples for testing and destroyed Rs 6,550 worth of food items.

At Hari Sweet Home in Mayuri Bazaar, inspectors identified similar violations and destroyed Rs 6,950 of food colours and creams. Jyotirmayi confirmed that officials issued notices to all the traders involved and sent the collected samples for testing. She emphasized that the Telangana Food Safety Task Force would take strict action to safeguard public health and urged traders to comply with regulations and act responsibly.
