In Madurai, the food safety department hosted an awareness program at Teppakulam on Friday evening, focusing on hygiene and food safety for street food vendors and residents. The initiative aimed to educate vendors on the importance of adopting best practices to ensure safe and hygienic street food for the public.

Theatrical Skit and Interactive Learning

Local artisans performed a Therukoothu skit, creatively delivering a message about eating right and cooking hygienically. The interactive performance highlighted the risks of poor food handling and emphasized the benefits of maintaining cleanliness in food preparation and service.

Empowering Food Vendors with Essential Supplies

The department distributed essential supplies, including garbage bins, gloves, and aprons, to selected vendors. Officials assured that regular awareness programs would continue to ensure vendors adhere to safety guidelines. A senior official emphasized, “By adopting proper hygiene practices, vendors can protect public health and improve their business reputation.” District Collector M. S. Sangeetha personally distributed the supplies to the vendors.
