Delhi Seizes 322 Kg of Ghee During Festive Inspections

Key Update

The Delhi government’s food safety department has seized more than 322 kg of ghee from retail stores offering festive discounts of up to 60%, including ‘Buy One, Get One Free’ deals. The inspections aimed to detect adulteration, verify food quality, and ensure compliance with food safety and labelling regulations.

Ghee Seized From Three Stores

During inspections at Maxcart Store and Aggarwal Store in Vikaspuri, officials collected five ghee samples and five samples of other food products, seizing more than 75.50 litres of ghee. At Aggarwal Store in Hastal village, they collected three ghee samples from the Shri Shan, Vrinda Farms and Avtar brands and seized 246 kg of ghee.

Other Food Products Inspected

Officials collected samples of sugar-boiled confectionery from Sahib Sons (Vicon International) in Azad Market over suspected labelling irregularities. They also sampled makhana and turmeric powder at Jain Store in Lajpat Nagar, and two varieties of biscuits, soft candy and sugar-based candy at Yug Basket Private Limited in Rithala. The department reported food safety violations and said further action would follow.

Government Urges Consumer Vigilance

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling food adulteration and protecting public health. She urged consumers to check product packaging, manufacturing and expiry dates, labelling details and FSSAI licence information before purchasing food, particularly during the festive season.

Laboratory Tests to Determine Further Action

The department will review laboratory reports of the collected ghee samples before deciding on further action against the establishments concerned.
