FSSAI Unveils Ayurveda Aahara List to Boost Clarity and Trust

Key Development

In a major step to align traditional health wisdom with modern food regulation, FSSAI, in partnership with the Ministry of Ayush, has released an official list of recognised Ayurveda Aahara products under Category A. This move supports the 2022 Ayurveda Aahara Regulations and aims to boost food safety, consumer trust, and industry clarity.

Backed by Classical Texts and Scientific Review

The list draws from classical Ayurvedic texts (Schedule A) and offers food businesses a clear regulatory framework. Issued under Note (1) of Schedule B, it ensures that Ayurveda-based foods meet both traditional authenticity and modern safety standards. “This empowers FBOs and reinforces trust in Ayurveda-based nutrition,” said Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush.

Encouraging Clean, Preventive Nutrition

Union Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav called Ayurveda Aahara a step toward preventive healthcare. These preparations, made with natural, seasonal, and therapeutic ingredients, aim to support digestion, immunity, and overall well-being—key elements of safe, sustainable eating. Experts under the Ministry of Ayush have validated these formulations scientifically. Their work has led to the Ayush Aahara Compendium—a reference guide for FBOs to ensure product safety, compliance, and consumer confidence.

Positioning India’s Food Wisdom on the Global Stage

Ayurveda Aahara represents a broader push toward preventive, clean-label nutrition. As PM Modi stated at World Food India 2023, Ayurveda Aahara, like Yoga and Millets, is set to gain global recognition for its health and safety benefits.
