The National Geographic Society and PepsiCo have partnered to launch Food for Tomorrow, a global initiative transforming how food is grown, shared, and consumed. This program uses scientific research, storytelling, and education to promote regenerative agriculture as a crucial solution for a sustainable food future.

As the global population approaches 10 billion by 2050, concerns over soil degradation and food security are growing. UNESCO warns that if current farming practices continue unchecked, nearly 90% of the world’s soil could degrade by mid-century. To tackle this urgent issue, Food for Tomorrow funds National Geographic Explorers, scientists, and storytellers to create compelling narratives, conduct scientific research, and present visual data that demonstrate how regenerative farming can restore ecosystems and feed the expanding population.

Reimagining Food Systems for People and Planet

Jill Tiefenthaler, CEO of the National Geographic Society, stresses that our future depends on how we cultivate food today. She highlights that, alongside PepsiCo, they are redesigning farming systems to support both people and the planet. Both organisations invest in bold ideas and actively back the farmers, scientists, and storytellers driving this transformation.

At the core of the initiative, regenerative agriculture employs farming practices that rebuild soil health, protect biodiversity, and harmonise with natural ecosystems. The program raises awareness about how these methods benefit the environment, strengthen food security, and empower farming communities. PepsiCo, a global food and beverage leader, commits to expanding regenerative, restorative, or protective farming practices across 10 million acres by 2030.

Ramon Laguarta, PepsiCo’s chairman and CEO, emphasises the intense pressure climate change places on global food systems, a challenge farmers face daily. He explains that Food for Tomorrow combines PepsiCo’s expertise in the food industry with National Geographic’s ability to advance science and inspire action. Together, they support farmers, protect the planet, and build a resilient food future for all.
