Key Update
On September 9, K.B. Sheeba purchased a packet of rusk from a bakery in Thalayolaparambu, Vaikom, near Ernakulam. The next morning, her 80-year-old mother, Sainaba, discovered a dead lizard in the rusk while having tea. The shock caused her blood pressure to spike, requiring immediate hospitalisation at Vaikom Taluk Hospital, followed by treatment at Kottayam Medical College and Vaikom Indo-American Hospital.
Authorities Step In
Sheeba quickly reported the incident to the District Police Chief, the Food Safety Department, and other authorities. Following a complaint at Thalayolaparambu Police Station, the brand representatives met with Sheeba but failed to resolve the issue. He subsequently approached the Consumer Court.
Food Safety Department Investigates
The Food Safety Officer confirmed that officials collected samples from the bakery and sent them to a laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram for testing. The case underscores the importance of strict food safety regulations and regular inspections to safeguard public health.
