Paneer Samples Fail Quality Test in Surat

Key Update

Food safety officials of the Surat Municipal Corporation, Gujarat, collected paneer samples from Surbhi Dairy in Sorathiya Compound, Khatodara, on November 7. The SMC Public Health Laboratory released the test results on Monday and confirmed that the paneer failed to meet quality standards.

Lab Finds Low Milk Fat, Possible Adulteration

According to the food analyst’s report, the paneer samples contained lower-than-required milk fat, indicating likely adulteration. Health department officials warned that paneer made with starch or additives can cause gas, indigestion, and other stomach issues. They added that such adulteration can disturb gut microbiota, weaken immunity, and increase the risk of gastrointestinal problems. They also cautioned that adulterated paneer lacks essential milk proteins and calcium, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies over the long term.

Action to Follow

Based on the laboratory findings, Surat municipal authorities will file a formal case against Surbhi Dairy for violating food safety regulations.
