Authorities Arrest Operator After Raid
Authorities in northwest Delhi’s Alipur busted a spurious desi ghee manufacturing unit and seized around 1,500 kg of fake desi ghee and 55 litres of artificial flavouring, all packed under multiple brand labels. Police arrested the operator, Gyanendra Singh, who allegedly produced and supplied adulterated ghee across Delhi and neighbouring states since 1995.
Raid Conducted Following Tip-Off
Police launched the raid on December 2 after receiving a tip-off about an illegal unit operating from a plot in Lal Dora, Kheda Kalan. They coordinated with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to form a joint inspection team. DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar V. Swami said the team discovered stacks of tins, cartons, and cans ready for dispatch. Singh reportedly used ghee-flavoured essence to prepare bulk quantities of fake ghee, packaging them to mimic premium brands.
Legal Action and Further Testing
Police booked Singh under Sections 274 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale) and 275 (sale of noxious food or drink) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Swami added that Singh, a Burari resident, had been operating from the current location since 2014. FSSAI officials collected samples for further testing.
