Kargil Food Safety Department Bans Nature’s Pride Lemon Squash

The Food Safety Department, Kargil (UT Ladakh), has prohibited the sale and distribution of Nature’s Pride Lemon Squash after laboratory tests declared the product unsafe for consumption. Food safety officials collected a sample of the product from a retail outlet in Shakar Chiktan, Kargil, and sent it to the National Food Laboratory, JNPA, Navi Mumbai, for analysis.

Lab Confirms Excess Preservative

The laboratory report found Benzoic Acid levels exceeding the permitted limit. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, such excess renders the product unsafe, as high intake of this preservative may pose health risks to consumers.

Immediate Ban Ordered

Invoking powers under Section 36(3)(b) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, the Designated Officer (Food Safety), Kargil, has ordered an immediate ban on the sale and distribution of the specified batch. The order will remain in force unless a referral laboratory issues a contrary opinion. The department has advised consumers to avoid purchasing or consuming the affected batch and to report any availability to local food safety authorities.
