Food safety and legal metrology authorities conducted joint inspections at 16 eateries within the Guntur Municipal Corporation limits in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday and seized 101 kg of stale food.
Ten joint teams inspected 12 restaurants, two sweet shops and two bakeries, including Gonguru Restaurant, Bismillah, Mayura, Swagat Delight, 99 Biryani, Al Kabir, Nawab Arabian, Biryani Palace, Madar’s Bilal, Babu Biryani, Subham Restaurant, Subhani Hotel, Sairam Foods, Balaji Sweets, Srujana Bakery and Bangalore Ayyangar Bakery. Officials found large quantities of stale food stored at several establishments. The teams immediately seized and destroyed the food items during the inspection.
Carcinogenic Colours Detected, Samples Sent for Testing
Authorities also detected the use of carcinogenic food colours at certain units. They collected 19 food samples and sent them to the State Food Laboratory in Hyderabad for detailed analysis.
Notices Issued for Hygiene Violations
Officials issued improvement notices to five eateries, directing them to rectify deficiencies in sanitation and hygiene standards. Food Safety Joint Controller N Poornachandra Rao said the inspections uncovered multiple violations and confirmed that authorities would initiate further action against the erring establishments after receiving the laboratory reports.
