20 Fall Ill After Buffet at Hotel Windsor Rajadhani in Kowdiar

Significant Update

At least 20 people sought medical attention after developing suspected food poisoning symptoms following a buffet at Hotel Windsor Rajadhani in Kowdiar, Thiruvanthapuram. The incident occurred on February 26 during a private function attended by more than 50 guests. Several attendees reported symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting and weakness on February 27 and 28.

Authorities Launch Food Safety Probe

Food safety officials inspected the hotel, collected food samples and sent them for laboratory analysis. They stated that the kitchen and related facilities appeared to follow prescribed standards at the time of inspection.

Since both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diners fell ill, officials have not yet identified the specific food item responsible. Authorities received formal complaints on Sunday, two days after the event, which prevented them from collecting leftover cooked food samples. However, they collected raw material samples and recorded statements from three affected individuals. Officials confirmed that none of the affected individuals required hospitalisation and that no serious or life-threatening cases were reported.

Hotel Initiates Internal Review

Hotel representatives said they have begun an internal review to identify and address any possible lapses. They noted that the hotel hosted other events and served a common buffet on the same day without receiving similar complaints. The management also stated that the hotel has no prior history of such incidents.
