Key Update
Packaged and ready-to-eat foods make life easier, but they can also carry hidden risks. Bacteria or preservatives in these foods can lead to illnesses. While fresh food is always safest, if you rely on packaged items, check labels carefully and inspect taste and texture before consuming. Food can spoil before its expiry due to mishandling, leaks, or improper storage.
A Real-Life Warning
Recently, Dr Sunita highlighted a worrying case on X: two different Milky Mist paneer packets had puffed up despite being two weeks from expiry. She bought them from Ratnadeep, refrigerated them immediately, and maintained the cold chain, yet the packets were spoiled. Experts explain that puffing occurs when bacteria inside the sealed pack produce gas, making the paneer unsafe to eat.
The Brand Responds
Milky Mist responded promptly, apologising for the inconvenience and asking the customer to share contact details for follow-up. They clarified that the batch in question, manufactured on 9th February 2026, had passed all internal quality checks, and no similar complaints had been reported. The company encouraged customers to reach out directly for any concerns. Experts advise discarding any puffed or spoiled paneer safely, ensuring it does not reach humans or animals. Always inspect packaged foods carefully—even before their expiry date—to stay safe.
