Key Update
The Food Safety Department has shut down a soda manufacturing unit after a dead baby snake was found inside a bottle of jeera soda purchased from a fast-food outlet in Vellangallur in the Thrissur district of Kerala. A customer who ordered jeera soda at a local eatery discovered a dead baby snake inside the bottle after opening it. The incident immediately raised concerns over food safety and hygiene standards.
Complaint triggers official inspection
The customer filed a complaint along with video evidence of the incident, prompting the Kodungallur Food Safety wing to inspect around 2:30 p.m. the same day. Officials traced the product to a manufacturing unit operating near a house in Konathukunnu. Although the unit had been operating with a valid licence for the past ten years, officials issued an immediate stop memo due to serious lapses in hygiene and food safety practices.
Officials destroy contaminated stock
During the inspection, authorities destroyed the existing stock of jeera soda found at the manufacturing unit to prevent further risk. The Food Safety Department continues its investigation into the source of contamination and overall compliance of the unit.
