Painted Cucumbers? Viral Bihar Railway Station Video Sparks Food Safety Panic

Significant Updates

A video from Katihar railway station in Bihar has sparked concern on social media after it appeared to show a woman coating cucumbers with a green-coloured substance. The incident has once again brought food safety practices and regulatory enforcement under scrutiny.

In the viral clip, a woman applies what appears to be green paint or a colouring liquid onto cucumbers kept near containers of water. Another woman beside her washes the cucumbers before dipping them into the same green solution. The video clearly highlights the visible difference between treated and untreated cucumbers. However, the exact nature of the liquid used remains unclear.

Social Media Users Raise Questions

As the video circulated online, social media users reacted strongly and voiced concerns over possible health risks. Many questioned the effectiveness of food safety monitoring in public spaces. One user stated that authorities should take strict action against anyone who risks public health, regardless of their economic background, as consumers ultimately consume such products. Another user accused the vendor of prioritising sales over public safety.

At the same time, some users urged people not to jump to conclusions. They pointed out that the substance used in the video has not yet been identified and noted that certain food products contain approved additives, although not all additives are necessarily safe.

Authorities Yet to Issue Statement

Several users urged railway authorities and food safety officials to investigate the matter immediately, calling the practice potentially hazardous. However, authorities have not issued any official statement on the viral video so far.
