Residents of Palappilly in the 10th ward of Melur panchayat in Thrissur have raised concerns after cooked rice prepared using ration rice reportedly turned dark bluish-black a few hours after cooking.
Family Alerts Authorities After Colour Change
According to the complaint, the family purchased the ration rice the previous day and cooked it as usual. However, hours later, the cooked rice allegedly changed colour, prompting the family to alert the ward member. Following the complaint, junior health inspectors from the health departments of Koratty and Melur visited the house and collected samples for laboratory testing.
Similar Incident Reported Earlier
Residents stated that a similar incident had reportedly occurred in the ward nearly a week ago, raising fresh concerns among locals who rely on rations of rice for daily consumption. A food inspector also visited the area and conducted a detailed inspection. However, officials have not yet confirmed the exact reason behind the unusual colour change.
Residents Avoid Consuming the Rice
After noticing the discolouration, the family chose not to consume the rice. The incident has triggered anxiety among residents in the area, with many demanding clarity on the cause of the problem. Panchayat member Linson Antony has called for a proper explanation and thorough investigation into the incident.
