Ayodhya Raid Seizes 500+ Fake Refined Oil Cartons Imitating Fortune

Significant Update

Police in Ayodhya have busted a major counterfeit food operation after raiding a warehouse in the Wazirganj area and seizing a large stock of fake refined oil. According to media reports, officials recovered over 500 cartons of edible oil that closely mimicked Fortune, a popular refined oil brand owned by Adani Wilmar Limited. The packaging was deliberately designed to resemble the original, making it difficult for consumers to identify counterfeit products.

Complaint Triggers Swift Police Action

A sales manager from Adani Wilmar Limited alerted authorities after detecting counterfeit Fortune oil in local markets. Acting on this complaint, police carried out a raid under the Kotwali Nagar jurisdiction. They uncovered a warehouse storing suspected fake goods. During the operation, officials found a large quantity of packaged oil ready for distribution. Early investigation suggests that the accused repacked the oil before sending it into the market. This points to a possible organised supply chain behind the operation.

Raid Video Sparks Public Outrage

A video from the raid surfaced online showing officials inspecting stacks of cartons inside the warehouse. As the footage spread across social media, it sparked strong public concern about the rising prevalence of counterfeit food products. Users reacted sharply to the incident. One user said it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between genuine and fake products and urged strict government action. Another called for severe punishment against food adulteration practices, while a third demanded strong legal action against those involved in such offences.

Authorities Intensify Probe and Testing

Police have seized the counterfeit stock and intensified their investigation to trace others involved in the network. They have also alerted the food safety department, which has sent samples of the seized oil for laboratory testing to assess quality and safety standards.
