Bihar Fake Paneer Racket: Acid and Urea Allegedly Used in Production

Key Update

An investigative report by Dainik Bhaskar has raised serious concerns over an alleged large-scale fake paneer manufacturing and supply network in Bihar, where operators reportedly use hazardous chemicals such as acid and urea instead of milk.

Findings

According to the report, journalists went undercover as factory workers to investigate the alleged racket. Their investigation reportedly revealed that traders claimed to handle deals involving around 5,000 kg of paneer daily, with a supply network allegedly extending across four states. During the investigation, people involved in the business reportedly disclosed the use of acid, urea, and other suspicious substances in paneer production. They also claimed that the operation could evade detection.

Health and Food Safety Concerns

The alleged use of industrial chemicals in food production raises serious food safety concerns, as such substances are not permitted as ingredients in paneer. Consumption of chemically adulterated food may pose health risks. The report also raises questions about food safety surveillance and monitoring of dairy product manufacturing and distribution.

Further Investigation Needed

The allegations require verification through official inspections and laboratory testing. Authorities need to investigate the manufacturing units, trace the alleged supply network, and take appropriate action if violations are confirmed.
