Chennai Girl Hospitalised After Glass Found in Sealed Boba Drink

Child Injured After Consuming Contaminated Drink

In Chennai, a young girl was hospitalised after she bit into a shard of glass hidden in a sealed boba drink. Her mother had purchased the drink on April 27 from the Frozen Bottle outlet in Thoraipakkam. Mistaking the shard for an ice cube, the girl put it in her mouth but quickly spat it out. Despite the immediate reaction, she started vomiting the next day and had to be hospitalised again.

Mother Takes to LinkedIn to Expose the Incident

The girl’s mother, Jahnavi Sanghavi, an International History Educator, shared the shocking incident on LinkedIn. She described how she rushed her daughter to the hospital for a medical check-up after discovering the boba drink glass. She used the platform to alert others and demand accountability from the brand.

Frozen Bottle Promised Help, Then Went Silent

After the incident, Ms. Sanghavi contacted Frozen Bottle. Marketing Lead Vipul Chaudhary assured her that the company would cover medical expenses once she submitted the documents. She promptly provided all the required paperwork. However, over 20 days later, the company has neither followed up nor compensated the family. Ms. Sanghavi said Frozen Bottle has ignored her calls and emails.

Company’s Dismissive Reply Fuels Outrage

Ms. Sanghavi revealed that the company responded dismissively, saying, “We manufacture more than 2.5 crore bottles a month – one such case will not affect our brand.” She called their attitude irresponsible, especially when consumer safety was at stake. Ms. Sanghavi has filed a complaint with the consumer court. Her post quickly went viral, drawing strong support from the public. Many commenters expressed outrage at Frozen Bottle’s conduct and vowed to boycott the brand.

Call for Corporate Responsibility

Ms. Sanghavi urged Frozen Bottle’s Founder Pranshul Yadav and CEO Arunkumar Balasubramanian to take full responsibility and prioritise consumer safety. She called for stricter quality checks and accountability across the food and beverage industry, stressing that this incident should serve as a wake-up call for brands and consumers alike.
